NABARD issues guidelines to support SHG federations

TIRUVANNAMALAI: The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has come out with policy guidelines to provide active support to self-help group (SHG) federations.
According to a release from S. Narayanan, Assistant General Manager (District Development), NABARD, Tiruvannamalai, the federations can avail themselves of support from NABARD for activities such as capacity building and problem solving, promoting special programmes to meet civic and developmental needs of SHG members, facilitating safety net mechanism for SHG members-microfinance/pension/remittance products, organising training programmes to impart new skills and upgrading skills, facilitating participation of SHG members in the organised supply chain management and primary processing of agricultural produce, financial literacy, bulk buying of produce at source for distribution among SHG members at competitive price and marketing of consumer products in rural areas. The NABARD would also act as business facilitator to the SHG federations.
The bank would provide financial support out of Micro Finance Development and Equity Fund, on a par with its other promotional schemes under the microfinance sector.
