BANGALORE: Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram will review the financial condition and implementation of various development schemes announced in the State budget in the last week of the month. Addressing presspersons after a meeting of the executive committee here on Friday, Governor Rameshwar Thakur said Mr. Chidambaram would review the progress of various schemes during the last nine months of this fiscal. The budgetary allocations and expenditure under both plan and non-plan heads, and the overall financial position of the State would be reviewed. If needed, he would issue directions to the officials on areas to be focussed in the remaining period of the financial year. As the State is under President’s Rule, the Government’s budget for 2008-09 would be presented in Parliament. Mr. Chidambaram had detailed discussion with the Governor on various issues during his visit to Bangalore on Saturday last. The Government has decided to hold a conference of deputy commissioners to assess the implementation of various development works in the districts. It would be convened in the middle this month. The deputy commissioners would be instructed to make a presentation on the expenditure incurred on various works and progress achieved, the Governor said. Mr. Thakur said he was satisfied with the progress of implementation of various decisions taken by the Government after the imposition of President’s Rule on November 20. Development works will not suffer due to shortage of funds, he added. Mr. Thakur said he had discussions with Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil on various issues, including preparation of electoral rolls and law and order in the State. The Home Minister visited the State on Wednesday. P.P. Prabhu, advisor to the Governor, said that the executive committee has decided to release Rs. 6 crore for the development of infrastructure at the Institute of Dairy Science and Technology in Gulbarga. A sum of Rs. 19.6 crore would be released to the institute in the two-year period. The institute has started functioning from the 2007-08 academic year. On the preparation of resettlement package in flood-affected districts of Bagalkot, Dharwad and Gadag, he said the Union Government has promised to provide funds for implementing the package. The detailed package would be worked out soon. P.K.H. Tharakan, advisor to the Governor, said the Union Home Ministry has agreed to sanction an additional Rs. 20 crore for Bangalore Mega City Police Force Project. The project was being implemented for modernisation of the police force in the city. The earlier cost of the project was Rs. 80 crore. So far, 70 per cent of the sanctioned funds had been spent, he said. KSRTCThe Governor said the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation has made a record Rs. 1,000 crore turnover last year. He complemented the workforce of KSRTC and urged it to help the corporation cross the Rs. 2,000-crore turnover mark soon.
