Court ruling on appointment of wardens/matrons
Staff Reporter
Consider appointment of B. Ed. candidates Dispose of representation expeditiously
MADURAI: The Madras High Court Bench here on Wednesday directed the State Government to consider a representation from Tamil Nadu Backward Classes and Most Backward Classes Hostels’ Tutor cum Warden Association to appoint only B. Ed.-qualified candidates as wardens/matrons.
Disposing of a writ petition filed by the association, a Division Bench comprising Justice A. Kulasekaran and P. Murgesen directed the Backward Classes, Most Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare Department Secretary to dispose of the representation expeditiously on merits.
Affidavit
Filing an affidavit on behalf of the association, its Ramanathapuram district president N. Manimozhi said that the wardens/matrons were duty-bound to supervise the education of hostel inmates and regulate their study hours as per Tamil Nadu Backward Classes Welfare Subordinate Service Rules.
Claiming that the Ramanathapuram Collector had planned to fill vacancies for wardens/matrons from among general candidates, he said that only B. Ed.-qualified teachers could be able to perform the job better.
