ERODE: Following communal tensions in Dharapuram, the district police have increased their presence in the southern town.
According to Superintendent of Police Sonal V. Misra around 350 police personnel have been posted in the town to prevent any untoward incident.
Carcass found
The action follows tension between two religious groups, which started about four days ago after carcass of a dead animal was found on the footsteps of a place of worship.
Ms. Misra said the police on Friday detained and released around 732 persons as part of the security measures.
As a part of the security measures, the police also monitored places of worships in Erode.
Though there was no security as such, the police were on the move and kept a watch, she said.
The Superintendent added that the police presence in Dharapuram would continue for another 24 hours and depend upon the law and order situation.
The police have also put up check posts to monitor the entry of vehicles into the town.
