Special Syndicate and Senate meetings to be conducted

MADURAI: Madurai Kamaraj University will have special Syndicate and Senate meetings in February to decide on the two nominees for the ‘Vice-Chancellor Search Panel,’ being constituted to select the next Vice-Chancellor.

P. Maruthamuthu, Vice-Chancellor, whose term expires on March 6, told reporters here on Thursday that the special Syndicate would be convened on February 11 and the special Senate on February 13.

After the university elects two nominees to the search committee, the Governor will nominate a third member to the panel.

Elaborate arrangements had been made for the 41st annual convocation to be held on January 5. Totally, 183 candidates would receive their Ph. D at this year’s convocation.

T. K. Chandrashekar, Director, National Institute for Inter-Disciplinary Science and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram, will be the chief guest and deliver the convocation address.

The university would confer honorary doctorate degrees on four eminent personalities for their contributions in their respective fields.

Doctor of Science will be conferred on M. Santappa, former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Madras, and R. Rangarajan, Chairman, Vel Tech Group of Institutions, Chennai.

Doctor of Literature will be conferred on lyricist R. Vairamuthu and the Chairman of Amalgamation Group of Companies, A. Sivasailam.
