VISAKHAPATNAM: The steaming hot tangy delicacies of Andhra became an instant hit with the delegates of the Indian Science Congress who came here from different parts of the country. The lunch was a rich consortium of sambar, lemon rice, rasam, paneer masala and hot curries with sweet pongal. Noble laureate Prof. Robert Curl also enjoyed the South Indian delicacies. “The food was delicious. It’s the true flavour of India,” he said at the end of the traditional meal.

Scenic beauty

Delegates from places like Kolkata and other parts of North India went for many helpings. Says, Shinjini Ganguly, a student of St.Xavier’s Kolkata, “The food is very different from Bengali preparations. But love it.” She along with 30 other students has come to the city for the first time to participate in the ISC. “It’s just not the food, we love the city for its scenic beauty,” says her friend Chaiti Nath.

For Rita Zomuanpuii of Mizoram, the trip to the City of Destiny has been special for more reasons than one. “It’s our first visit to this part of the country and even at the Indian Science Congress. People have been very helpful to us right from day one,” she says. Even as she struggles to sip water in between her meal she says with a smile, “And the food is yummy but just a bit spicy.” Ask her what her favourite is and pat comes the reply, “It’s the tangy lemon rice.”
