Chauhan defends visit to hospital
Staff Correspondent
BHOPAL: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan on Friday defended his visit to Indore’s M. Y. Hospital on Wednesday night, where he is said to have met an accused in the Ujjain Professor H. S. Sabharwal murder case, by saying that he went to the hospital only for inspection and it would be wrong to cast motives.
Talking to The Hindu, the Chief Minister accused a section of the media of raising a controversy over his surprise inspection of M. Y. Hospital. The Chief Minister said he had received information that ventilators and other life-saving equipment were lying out of order and the overall condition prevailing in the hospital called for immediate attention.
He pointed out that keeping in view the irregularities and poor level of supervision, he ordered suspension of the hospital Dean, Dr. N. K. Saraswat. Orders were also issued to serve a show-cause notice on the hospital Superintendent, Dr. C. K. Kulkarni, he added.
Mr. Chauhan faces the charge of meeting Vimal Tomar, an under trial in the Prof. Sabharwal murder case, during his visit to the hospital. According to available reports, a lawyer has filed an application in this regard in the court of the Additional District and Sessions Judge in Ujjain.
