BHOPAL: The Uma Bharti-led Bharatiya Janshakti Party is grappling with major inner-party dissensions.

This became clear on Friday with the announcement that former Union Minister and former general secretary of the party, Prahlad Patel, had been divested of all party responsibilities.

The former State unit general secretary of Bharatiya Janshakti, Bhagwandas Sabnani, circulated a statement issued by the Bharatiya Janshakti media in-charge Geet Dixit at a press conference here on Friday stating categorically that Mr. Patel was neither holding any party responsibility nor authorised to use the party leader’s name in any manner.

Mr. Sabnani told media persons that over the last one year several leaders and party workers had left the Bharatiya Janshakti due to their differences with Mr. Patel.

‘Untenable conduct’

Party workers had told Ms. Bharti that his conduct was making it difficult to continue party activities, Mr. Sabnani said, adding that Mr. Patel had deviated from the official party line on the Gujarat elections issue and said that he was having differences with Ms. Bharti.

Mr. Sabnani accused Mr. Patel of trying to deflect attention from the party workers’ disenchantment with him by telling the media that he was having differences with Ms. Bharti.

He said Mr. Patel’s recent public statements amounted to indiscipline.

A report would be submitted to the party president on this issue and she would take a final decision, he added.
