Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The survey on Sabari rail will begin in three months time, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister M. Vijayakumar said here on Friday. The Minister told presspersons that the government had decided to speed up land acquisition for the project on a fast-track basis, and this would help landowners get higher compensation. A sum of Rs. 10 crore had been provided for in the budget for land acquisition.

Mr. Vijayakumar said the railway line would pass through Ernakulam, Kottayam and Idukki districts. Forest areas had been excluded from the path. The line might be extended to Erumeli and Punalur. The total cost of the project would be about Rs. 570 crore.
