dated January 5, 1958: Indo-Czech friendship

Mr. Viliam Siroky, Prime Minister of Czechoslovakia, speaking soon after his arrival in New Delhi on January 3 said, “The people of India and Czechoslovakia stand in the same rank in the struggle for the elimination of the threat of a new war, for the development and strengthening of friendly relations and peaceful co-operation among all nations.” Welcoming the Czech Premier at Palam Airport, Prime Minister Nehru referred to the vicissitudes of Czechoslovakia in recent years and expressed the hope that Mr. Siroky’s visit would “help strengthen the existing friendly relations between Indian and Czechoslovakia.” Mr. Siroky said: “Stirred with emotion of profound happiness we are stepping upon the soil of India, the land of millennial history and magnificent culture."
