Shivraj Patil’s Egypt visit from today
Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI: Home Minister Shivraj Patil will embark on a five-day official visit to Egypt. He will leave for Cairo on Saturday.
During his visit, India and Egypt will sign two agreements — the Agreement on Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty on Criminal Matters and the Agreement on Transfer of Sentenced Persons.
Mr. Patil, who will head an eight-member delegation, will hold discussions with Egyptian leaders, including his counterpart General Habib Ibrahim Habib El Adly on issues of bilateral interest. He will also call on Egyptian President Mohammed Hosni Mubarak.
India and Egypt already have a number of bilateral agreements.
Both the countries enjoy cordial and friendly ties as Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, President Nasser and President Tito were co-founders of the Non-Aligned Movement.
