Traders seek super-malls in city

HYDERABAD: The Twin Cities Traders Welfare Federation (TCTWF) is demanding construction of super-malls on the lines of ‘mall of America’ to accommodate traders who would be affected during road widening works to be taken up by Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation for the Metro-rail project.

The members of the federation, while speaking to newspersons on Friday, felt that ten such malls should be constructed in various parts of the city to accommodate traders. “Our estimates indicate that about 10,000 traders and 2,000 properties would be affected in twin cities.

“The livelihood of one lakh families would be affected by this project,” claimed president of TCTWF, K. Kesava Rao.

The probable impact of road-widening works on the families, traders and the general public has already been brought to the notice of GHMC Commissioner C.V.S.K. Sarma, they informed. “We have spoken to Labour Minister G. Vinod. He has promised to arrange a meeting with the Chief Minister soon,” Mr. Rao informed. The federation members also felt that facilities like ‘tax-holiday’ up to five-years and easy-loan schemes should be extended to affected traders. Owners of buildings should be compensated adequately according to the prevailing market values, members suggested.

“Metro-rail is a prestigious project and we are not opposing it. Our demands are reasonable and authorities have to provide adequate compensation,” Mr. Kesava Rao reiterated.
