A PERFECT GIFT: An artisan at the inauguration of ‘Kuteera-2008’, an exhibition and sale by Crafts Council of Karnataka at Karnataka Chitrakala Parishat in Bangalore on Friday. BANGALORE: Handicraft products that eminently fit into the interiors of a house, folk and traditional paintings from different parts of India, patachitra from Orissa, Rajasthan miniatures and Kerala temple murals to accent your walls. All these and many more products are on display at this year’s Kuteera exhibition. Over 30 crafts units are participating in the seven-day exhibition that began at Karnataka Chitrakala Parishat on Friday. Organised by the Crafts Council of Karnataka in coordination with the Union Ministry of Textiles, the exhibition and sale of traditional and contemporary handicrafts, home products and accessories will continue till January 10 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. A first this year are Cheriyal murals from Andhra Pradesh and Mysore ganjifa cards from Karnataka, made by award-winning craftspersons. Apart from that, kauna grass woven mats from Hassan, metal bronzes in traditional and contemporary styles and a new range of contemporary stoneware from the Shivarapatna area are on display. Craftspersons from Karnataka are showcasing the bhuta ritual masks and bronze items, a wide range of painted wood products from the languishing craft tradition of Kinhal in north Karnataka, ganjifa cards and puppets. Home furnishings including eco-friendly, natural-dyed bedspreads, quilts and cushions from Andhra Pradesh and silk bed-linen of Karnataka; floor coverings including kora grass mats from Pattamadai, Warangal durries and Kashmir carpets and durries are on display. Home accessories, including ceramics, Kondapalli toys and wood works, brass hanging lamps, tribal iron and metal crafts, vegetable dyed lacquer ware, products fashioned from natural fibre, handmade paper and kalamkari painted cloth are on display. Tourism and Kannada and Culture Secretary I.M. Vittalamurthy inaugurated the exhibition on Friday.
