Many domestic flights delayed
Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI: A large number of domestic flights were delayed at Indira Gandhi International Airport here for the second day in a row on Friday because of poor visibility.
Visibility fell to 500 metres following which safeguard procedures were initiated at 4-10 a.m.
The procedures were terminated at 11-07 a.m. when the runway visual range improved to 1,800 metres. There was no fog and low visibility procedures were not initiated on Friday, said a Delhi International Airport (Private) Limited official.
Due to low visibility from 10 p.m. on Thursday to 8 a.m. on Friday, the primary runway that is CAT-III-B compliant was in use.
Though dual use of runways did happen for some hours in the day, it was back to a single runway from 6 p.m. on Friday evening as visibility dropped.
Poor visibility in the morning hours marred flight movement throughout the day.
Till 8-30 in the evening, most domestic arrivals and departures were delayed by 15 minutes to three hours.
