New norms for driving in Delhi
Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI: Lieutenant-Governor Tejendra Khanna on Friday said very soon only people possessing driving licences issued in Delhi would be eligible to drive on the Capital’s roads.
As for those having driving licences from other States, he said they would have to appear for tests conducted by agencies like the Institute of Drivers’ Training and Research or the Automobile Association of Upper India in order to become eligible for plying their vehicles in the Capital.
Mr. Khanna said while the modalities of such a move were being worked out, it would go a long way in improving discipline on Delhi’s roads.
The Lieutenant-Governor also declared that preparations for the Commonwealth Games to be held in Delhi in 2010 were on schedule.
