PM urged to regularise unorganised labour
VISAKHAPATNAM: Chairman of A.P. Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board, S. Gopal, has urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to take measures for regularising the services of unorganised labour or order an inquiry by a Supreme Court judge into the violation of various provisions of law and resorting to unfair labour practices in some organisations in the city.
Mr. Gopal who submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister here on Wednesday evening, said thousands of workers in the unorganised sector were being employed by Naval Dockyard (V) and BV Yard and the Port and the Dock Labour Board. He said the issue had been represented to the Prime Minister 13 months ago and he sought a report on it. . INTUC secretary of ENC A.L. Appa Rao and others were present.
