Chennai: Integral Coach Factory and Central Excise won their matches against City Police and Tamil Nadu Electricity Board respectively, in the senior division hockey league championship here on Friday. Former champion ICF overwhelmed City Police 5-0 after leading 3-0 at half-time. Vinod Kumar netted two goals, while Vivek, Satish Kumar and Rajendran netted one each. In the other match, Merwyn Joy played the lead role for Central Excise, slotting two goals within five minutes from start. Suresh Kumar did well to restrict the margin for TNEB late in the second half, but before the final whistle Sriram Singh enlarged the margin to give Central Excise a comfortable 3-1 victory. Pacers postponed The Chennai selection round of Gatorade Pacers, scheduled at the MRF Pace Foundation ground on January 5 and 6, has been postponed owing to inclement weather. The selection would now be conducted on January 9 and 10. Cricket tournamentGoms inter-school u-15 boys cricket tournament will be held from January 7 to 17 at the Marina grounds. Eight schools, Santhome, St. Bede’s, Padma Sheshadri, Vidya Mandir, Chettinad Vidyashram, Don Bosco, St. Patrick’s, and St. Michael’s, will take part. Each side will get to face 30 overs in a match. The semifinals will be on January 16 and the final on January 17. Chess tournamentThe Thiruvallur District Chess Association will conduct the Jaya rolling trophy u-11 and 13 championships on January 10 and 11. Call S. Balaraman (94447-51432) or N. Matches postponedDue to the slushy turf conditions at the Nehru Stadium, the CFA senior division and first division matches scheduled for January 4 were postponed. Meanwhile, the Canara Bank-Kancheepuram District Cricket Association league matches, scheduled for Saturday have been postponed in view of the inclement weather. Elsewhere, all the TNCA league cricket matches, scheduled on January 6 in Chennai, have been postponed owing to inclement weather. Fresh dates will be announced soon. Throwball trialsTrials to select the Chennai district boys’ and girls’ throwball teams (u-19) for the fifth State championship at Pennadam (Cuddalore district) from January 23 to 25 will be held at Valliammal MHSS on Jan. 6 at 8 a.m. Call A. Zephra Currimbhoy 1stTwelve-year-old Zephra Currimbhoy of the Royal Madras Yacht Club (RMYC) was ranked overall first and won the regatta in the ‘Invitation Cup 2007’, a seven-race event organised by the Sea Cadet Corp, Mumbai recently. The results were declared after a series of seven races. Zephra totalled minimum penalty points of 20 in the fleet. There were in all 36 sailors in the regatta and that included both boys and girls below 15. Shiv Rekhi, also of RMYC, competed in the ‘team event’ that finished first in the regatta, according to a press release.
