ALAPPUZHA: The Inter-State Illicit Spirit Movement Investigation team said here on Friday that more than 5,000 litres of illicitly distilled liquor and over 30 litres of illicitly made arrack were seized from a paddy field at Pathiyoor, near Haripad. The raids, led by Inspector-General of Police (Crimes) Rishi Raj Singh, began at around 3 p.m. and were concentrated on a ‘puncha’ paddy field, which the team said was being turned into an illegal distillery at night. The contraband seized on Friday was hidden under the water, probably for being smuggled at night. The team seized the instruments that were being used for the process.
