THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Chief Conservator and Custodian of Vested Forests will hold a hearing on Saturday on the proposal for cancellation of the proceedings for issue of revised notification on Merchiston Estate under the Kerala Forest (Vesting and Management of Ecologically Fragile Lands) Act. The Chief Conservator had earlier issued a notice to Xavi Mano Mathew, Managing Director of Southern Field Ventures, who claims ownership of the estate. Mr. Mathew said in a statement here on Friday that the hearing was being held in a hurry as a vindictive action against him since he had filed a defamation suit against Forest Minister Benoy Viswom. Meanwhile, Revenue authorities, who have inspected alternative land for the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology at Valiamala in Thiruvananthapuram district, have reported that a large number of people would have to be evicted for acquisition of land outside the Valiamala complex of the Indian Space Research Organisation.
