‘Mothers should be role models for their children’ BANGALORE: The future of the present generation depends largely on education and social awareness, and only their mothers can give them the right education. This was the view expressed by those who attended the programme held to mark the 150th death anniversary of Jhansi Rani Lakshmi Bai here. The programme was organised by the Mahila Morcha of the Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday. Delivering the keynote address on “The role of mothers in independent India”, Chakravarthy Soolibele of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh said mothers should be role models for their children and give them social education that has high values. Social pressures
Owing to social pressures society was not giving adequate emotional support and value-based guidance to children, he said and called on people, especially women, to overcome pressures of life and guide their children to the right path. Vimala Gowda, MLC, said society should refrain from sidelining women. She said women should be given their place in society as it had been proved that they had larger concern for society and family. EducationShobha Karandlaje, MLC, who presided over the function, said women should use modern tools of education to spread the values of life. As many as 300 women delegates from all parts of the State participated in the day-long programme. Roles played by Lakshmi Bai, Sister Nivedita, Durga Bibi and other women during the freedom struggle were highlighted by other speakers.
