KANNUR: The Government Vocational Higher Secondary School at Kadirur, near Thalassery, has embarked on a programme aimed at improving English language proficiency among students. A two-day residential camp for students at the school from Saturday is part of the process initiated by the school authorities to make students achieve a level of proficiency in the use of English language. The school authorities are confident that the programme will turn out to be a success. The programme, in fact, began as an orientation course to help the students use English language fluently and effectively. Improving the general standard of English among the students was the objective of the orientation course. The course commenced in July last. The course will wind up with the two-day residential camp in which 60 students from classes VIII to Plus Two are participating, the school authorities said. The programme will continue, they said. According to them, the wholehearted participation of the school staff and the Parent-Teacher Association members has helped the school management conduct classes as part of the course. The classes are handled by resource persons involved in propagation of English education. The camp will include programmes such as mock parliament, field trips, including visits to houses and shops, environmental study and other programmes on interactive English.
