Proposal on creation of access to remote areas sent to Centre, says Minister Reddya Naik ANANTAPUR: Minister for Remote and Interior Areas Development and Tribal Welfare D.S. Reddya Naik has stated that the State government has sent proposals to the Centre for development of roads in remote, interior and inaccessible areas with Rs. 900 crore. Link to villagesSpeaking to newspersons here on Saturday, he said establishing good road link to such villages would play a key role in their comprehensive development. The State government was already spending Rs. 1,469 crore under RIAD scheme for development of education, health and roads, he stated. Of the 5,682 village identified under the scheme in 18 districts, Rs. 19 crore was being spent on development of roads to 55 identified villages in Anantapur district. Besides, five residential degree and six residential junior colleges would also be set up under the scheme by spending Rs. 1.20 crore for construction of each college building and Rs. 64 lakh for each for a hostel building. Another Rs. 15 crore was being spent on the development of 7,811 acres of land belonging to tribals in the district. However, no proposals were received from the Minor Irrigation Department for the development of water sources in forest areas. The minister earlier reviewed the programmes being implemented under RIAD and Tribal Welfare Departments with the district officials. District Collector N. Sridhar, Zilla Parishad Chairperson T. Kavitha, Minister for Agriculture N. Raghuveera Reddy and others also participated in the review.
