Moily delivered the convocation address at Kannada University ‘Introduce richness of Kannada language to the outside world’ HAMPI: M. Veerappa Moily, Chairman of the Administrative Reforms Commission, underlined the need for the universities to guide and mould the youth to face the challenges of liberalisation and globalisation, besides ensuring systematic development of the State by making optimum use of the available natural and human resources available here abundantly. Delivering the 16th “Nudi Habba” (convocation) address at Kannada University here on Saturday, Mr. Moily said that despite having rich resources, the development in the State was not to the expected level. “Time has now come for the universities and higher educational institutions to consider all these aspects and ensure the development of the State and its people, besides propagating Kannada language, its culture and tradition,” he said. Mr. Moily, while stating that passing through the era of globalisation was inevitable, stressed the need to ponder over how to make use of it for the propagation of Kannada language and the culture and tradition, and coming out with welfare programmes by involving the universities, software companies and government institutions. “National and international software companies, with a little bit of keenness, can contribute a lot for the propagation and growth of the local language, culture and tradition. The Union and State governments may consider a proposal in this regard if it is mooted by universities,” he felt. Stating that Kannada language was yet to get its due, including the classical language tag, Mr. Moily exhorted all concerned, including intellectuals and litterateurs, to be active in introducing richness of the language to the outside world. He wanted the Kannada University to upload all information about Kannada, its rich culture and tradition and literature in its website and update it periodically. He also stressed the need to bring into focus the culture prevailing among several tribal communities like “Halakki,” “Kunabi,” “Koraga,” “Nalke,” “Parva,” “Bundebesta,” “Sikkaligar,” “Gouliga,” “Helava,” “Siddi,” which was also equally rich, while introducing the Kannada, its culture to others.
