BJP: suggestion on I-cards good but impractical

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party has described as “impractical” the suggestion made by Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor Tejendra Khanna that everyone in Delhi should carry an identity-card from January 15 onwards.

Party spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said that the BJP has been demanding that an all-purpose photo identity card be issued which should be water-proof, not easily damaged and small enough to carry in a pocket. The party has suggested a national data bank where names and other particulars of all citizens be maintained. Once this is done the BJP would welcome the move to make it compulsory for all citizens to carry their I-cards.
