25 p.c. budget allocation for SCs, STs sought
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI: The Centre and the State must make a budget allocation of 25 per cent exclusively for scheduled castes/scheduled tribes, Puthiya Thamizhagam president K. Krishnasamy demanded here on Saturday.
He told reporters that even 60 years after Independence, socio-economic conditions of the “oppressed” people had not improved.
Reservation had helped only a fraction of them. . Increasing the allotment and monitoring schemes meant for SCs and STs alone would improve their condition.
Agitation
The party would organise a series of agitations from January 20 throughout the State if the Government did not fill 533 teacher vacancies, reserved for the community in 67 government colleges in the State before Pongal.
Demanding extension of reservation to judiciary, Dr. Krishnasamy said the Prime Minister recently announced that 7,000 village courts would be set up in the country. As 7,000 judges would be required to man these courts, the Government should provide reservation in village judge posts.
