MANGALORE: Manjusha Hebbar and Hardika Shetty, National Service Scheme volunteers of St. Agnes College, Mangalore, have bagged the national-level Indira Gandhi award 2007-08 presented by the Union Government. This is the highest award conferred on NSS volunteers at the national level, a press release from Marie Prem D’ Souza, principal of the college, here on Saturday said. Ms. D’ Souza said it was historic that two NSS volunteers of the same college were receiving the award during the same academic year. The college has the distinction of being recognised as the best NSS unit of Mangalore University for 2007-08 with awards of best NSS programme officer and best woman NSS volunteer going to Charles Pais and Ms. Hebbar respectively. The college has also received the international Jimmy and Rosalyn Carter Partnership Award for watershed management under the auspices of NSS in 2006.
