Twenty20 tournament: semifinalists spotted

Srivilliputtur: Annamalai and Saurashtra (Rajkot) entered the semifinals of the all-India inter-university Twenty20 cricket tournament for Anandam Ammal memorial Trophy with victories over Kannada (Hampi) by ten wickets and Madurai Kamaraj by 61 runs respectively at Krishnan Koil near here on Saturday.

The other two teams to qualify for the semifinals were Pondicherry and Calicut on the spin of coin. The scores (quarterfinals):

Kannada 71 in 17.4 overs (E. Sivakumar three for 15, S. Ramanichandran two for 10, P. Sivakumar two for three) lost to Annamalai University 72 for no loss in 7.2 overs (S. Ramanichandran 32, T. Kalairaj 39); Saurashtra 154 for seven in 20 overs (Vasavada Arpit 50, R. Ranjith two for 33) bt Madurai Kamaraj 93 in 19.3 overs (Pradeep 29 n.o., Sodhatara Mayur three for 12, Vasoya Vishal two for 20, Raval Kuldip two for 14).

Pondicherry 153 for eight in 20 overs (Sri Renganathan 37, Mohan Raj 25, Sivakumar three for 24, Rajesh three for 33) vs. Kalasalingam eight for no loss in 1.2 overs. (Pondicherry won on spin of coin).

Calicut 163 for eight in 20 overs (Vyshak Chandran 61, Pravin Achutan 28, Arjun Sarathy three for 25, Sriram two for 20) vs. SRM University nine for two in 1.5overs. (Calicut won on spin of coin).

SDAT SHSS wins title

The SDAT Sports Hostels and Sports Schools (SDAT SHSS) in the boys’ section and SDAT Sports Hostel (Erode) in the girls’ section won the overall title at the 50th State-level Republic Day athletic meet in Karur on Friday.
