HYDERABAD: Day two of the Hyderabad International Film Festival proved to be encouraging. A mixed fare of world cinema, competitive fiction and documentaries were well-appreciated.

‘Love as a Test’, in the World Cinema section, was showcased by a co-producer Tursunai Chodurova from the Kyrgyz Republic. In the interaction, she said it was all about common evils plaguing society, including HIV/AIDS, drugs and how youth were drawn into the vortex.

In tune with the title though, the story revolves the thread of true love, how it wins in the end and the travails that the subjects undergo to emerge victorious.

The Chinese film, ‘Teeth of Love’, that was first shown at the inaugural session on January 3, was re-screened on Saturday to a packed audience.

‘Love Made Easy’, a comedy to the hilt too, was well-received. Among the documentaries, ‘Windows of Sunset’ in Urdu, a debut of city lad Gautam Valluri, was screened to a full house. A gripping 25-minute story about two journalists, it has a ‘MacGuffin’, a plot device that motivates characters and advances the story without actually having any relevance. Another documentary that moved viewers was ‘Kachara’ (garbage) made by Jennifer Alphonse.

As the title suggests, the 33-minute Telugu film is about two rag-pickers, Kachara and Ali. It revolves around how the parents do not want the youngsters to go on picking rags and how they go about trying to get them access to education. The message does come in very strongly.

‘Aa Rathri’ (That Night) marks debut by B.S. Raju, who has acted in a few Telugu films as a character actor. Other documentaries screened included ‘Accident’ by Jonathan Ed and ‘Pudhayal’ a nine-minute Tamil film by M. Balaji.
