Show cause notice to be issued to M.S. Talawar

MoU with study centres of correspondence courses cancelled

BANGALORE: For the first time in the history of Bangalore University, the findings of a high-level committee of the Bangalore University Syndicate nailed six management colleges for admitting 44 students without proper documents. Among other resolutions passed by the Syndicate, it has decided to pursue investigations into the admission proceedings of all other colleges in Bangalore.

“Colleges which admitted students with false documents and students who have been found guilty of violations have been issued show-cause notices by the university and appropriate action will be initiated against the violators,” said Ranganath H.A., Vice-Chancellor of Bangalore University. Forty-four students studying in the third semester were found to have either falsified or inaccurate records. While some students were registered under numbers which were not allotted by the universities, others who did not meet the adequate academic cut-offs were also studying at these colleges.

The sample study was conducted in 10 colleges out of which six colleges were indicted. The colleges — Sambhram Academy of Management Sciences, R.K. Institute of Management Studies, T. John College, T. John Institute of Management and Sciences, KKECS College and AMC College— will be given a chance to explain, after which the syndicate will decide the future course of action. Most colleges were found guilty of admitting students who secured below 50 per cent, which is the cut-off for MBA courses as per the university rules. “Such an exercise is to send the message out to colleges which may indulge in such activities,” said Mr. Ranganath.

The Syndicate also decided to issues a show cause notice to M.S. Talawar, professor and chairman, Department of Education, Bangalore University, on the basis of a report filed by the inquiry committee, headed by Ko. Chennabasappa, retired District and Sessions Judge, for breaching the code of conduct.

The syndicate also arrived on a decisions regarding the de-recognition of the study centres of Correspondence Courses.

“After reviewing replies from eight study centres we have decided that we cannot recognise them and have cancelled our Memorandum of Understanding with them,” said Mr. Ranganath. Among other routine decisions, the syndicate decide to extend the term of the NSS Programme Coordinator, Lakshmipathi for two more years. B.L. Muralidhar, Reader, MCA Programme has been appointed Director of Pre-Examination Coaching Centre.

The university also announces the institution of the following courses — Bachelor of Social Work under the Arts faculty, P.G. Courses in Earthquake Engineering, undergraduate Courses in Medical Electronics, Bio-technology, evening courses in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Comp Science Engineering, PG Courses in Computer Networking, Bio-informatics, Software Engineering, VLSI and Embedded System, Digital Electronics, Advances Material Technology, Control Engineering and Web Technology.
