HYDERABAD: The seldom working public grievances cell and the Face-to-Face programme itself of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation came under criticism in the ‘Face-To-Face’ on Saturday. Minister for BC Welfare M. Mukesh Goud and other top officials from the Municipal Administration departments were mortified when a caller from S.R Nagar suggested that the grievances cell be wound up. “The cell has lost its relevance as it is hardly helpful. It is better to close it and save some public money,” Mr. Subramaniam from S.R. Nagar suggested. Another caller from Indiranagar Colony Kishan Rao questioned the usefulness of face-to-face programmes. GHMC Commissioner C.V.S.K Sharma admitted the need to revamp the grievances cell in GHMC. “We are in the process of revamping and it would be streamlined soon,” he said. Earlier, before the start of the programme, Mr . Mukesh Goud informed that by March 2008 about 24,000 houses would be constructed and distributed to the needy in Hyderabad. A housewife from Narayanguda Madhuri complained about ‘absence’ of traffic cops during peak hours at Narayanguda area. “With no cops around parents like us are having tough time in negotiating the traffic in the area,” she said. In all, about 25 complaints were received during the face-to-face programme on Saturday.
