Congress ‘no’ to separate currency

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The Congress party on Friday rejected a demand for a separate currency for Jammu and Kashmir.

State Minister Tariq Hameed Karra had on Thursday sought a separate currency for the State .

Describing the demand as “preposterous and unviable” Congress spokesman Abhishek Singhvi said it was totally contrary to all constitutional principles, norms and conventions.

“It defies logic, apart from national interests involved. We strongly refute it. Such statements create uncertainty and confusion and should never be repeated.”

The Congress is ruling in Jammu and Kashmir along with the People’s Democratic Party.
