HUBLI: The Hubli police have arrested a man on the charge of cheating several people. In a release here, the police gave his name as A. Ravikumar alias Sampathkumar, a native of Kadapa district in Andhra Pradesh. According to police, the accused was arrested on Friday from his residence in Ayyappa Colony of Bellary. The accused had allegedly withdrawn Rs. 4.04 lakh from the ICICI Bank accounts of Nasir Ahmed Ali Budhankhan and Badesab Panibandh of Hubli in November last. The accused used to approach the bank’s customers through a girl, whom he had appointed as a trainee, and get their “silver ATM cards” on the pretext of converting them into “gold cards” and getting them loans at low interest rate. Ravikumar had purchased jewellery at Davangere and Bangalore and also withdrawn cash using the cards, the police said. The police said the accused had admitted to the crime during the inquiry. More casesAccording to the police, there are two cases of cheating bank customers to the tune of Rs. 2.10 lakh and Rs. 3.44 lakh registered against him and two of his accomplices at Ashoknagar Police Station in Bangalore and Tirupati East Police Station respectively. The two other accused Chandrakumar Reddy, brother of Ravikumar, and Ramesh are absconding. The Suburban Police have registered a case and the arrested has been remanded in judicial custody.
