The growing violence and sex in Telugu movies is a matter of serious concern. The producers, of late, seem to be vying with one another in scaling Himalayan heights in depicting violence and sex unmindful of the baneful influence it will have on the youth. What is even more distressing is, these movies are shown on TV day in and day out lest one should miss them. It is no exaggeration that the crimes being reported these days including harassment, acid attack, kidnap and killing of young girls take their roots in the present-day movies. It is time the Government realised the seriousness of the situation and took immediate steps to curb the trend. Bhogavilli Satyanarayana, Visakhapatnam Road blocksLast week, a programme was held near Old Gajuwaka Junction, blocking the VUDA 60 ft. road. In fact, the public road was kept closed for more than one and a half days on January 3 and 4 without any public purpose. Entire vehicular traffic was affected by this private function. It is shocking that there was no effort to check the blocking of the road laid at a cost of about Rs.50 lakhs by the VUDA. The authorities should explain how a private function was allowed to be held on an important road and why such inconvenience was allowed by them for two days. T.V. Nageswara Rao, Visakhapatnam Deplorable trendIt is deplorable that a private medical college near Vizianagaram is allegedly in the habit of not paying salaries on time to its staff. Instead of paying salaries of November-2007 to the staff on December 1 or 2, the management allegedly advised employees to apply for advance on December 15 which is in violation of labour law. It is unbecoming of a medical college management to make its staff starve when it pockets all the profits. I appeal to the State Government to issue orders to the management to pay the salaries promptly in accordance with labour laws. M. Jagannadha Rao, Vizianagaram Inconvenience to collegeSVSS Arts and Science Degree College in Attili of West Godavari district is located amid lush green paddy fields. But the atmosphere is vitiated by a hollow brick unit which produces noise all day and the garbage dump near the main gate put by some miscreants. I request the District Collector to take necessary action. V. Kiran Kumar, Attili (West Godavari dist.,)
