Be safe: Polio drops being given to a new-born baby at Krishnagiri Government Hospital on Sunday. Krishnagiri: The first phase of the pulse polio immunization campaign was held in as many as 915 camps spread across the district on Sunday. Collector Santhosh Babu inaugurated the campaign by administering polio drops to children at the Alapatti Primary health centre. A total of 1,89,361 children were given polio drops during the first phase of the campaign. The District Administration has made adequate arrangements to administer polio drops at all Primary health centres, health sub-centres, Government hospitals, anganvadi centres, bus stands and railway stations from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. to ensure that all children below 5 years were covered he said. A total of 3,660 staff from Departments of Health, Education, Social Welfare and non-governmental organizations were roped in to administer polio vaccine to 1.9 lakhs children in Krishnagiri district. In addition mobile units were also pressed into service to cover remote and inaccessible villages. RecordedThe details of children brought for immunization were also recorded. Service organizations such as Lion’s club and Rotary also took part in the campaign on a large scale. Krishnagiri MLA T. Senguttuvan was present. DharmapuriIn Dharmapuri district the first phase of pulse polio immunization was held in 923 camps on Sunday. Collector P. Amudha inaugurated the campaign by administering polio drops to children at the Laligam PHC. She also visited camps established at the Dharmapuri Government Hospital and bus stand. A total of 1,59,128 children were administered drops during the campaign. A total of 4,000 staff drawn from Health and other departments were pressed into service. In addition mobile units were formed to cover children in remote villages, farmhouses and construction sites. Deputy Director Health Services N. Ayyanar was present.
