30 engineering students shortlisted for IAS, IPS coaching programme

TIRUPATTUR: Sri Nandhanam College of Engineering and Technology, Tirupattur, is encouraging students to take up Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and Indian Police Service (IPS) examinations.
E. Vidyasagaran, Senior Scientist at the college, said that about 30 students from various engineering stream have been shortlisted for the coaching programme. They have been selected based on their overall academic performance and competence. They would be imparted free training. A sum of Rs. one crore has been sanctioned for the programme, he said.
The college recently invited Tirupattur Sub Division Sub Collector Ashish Kumar to create awareness of the examinations among the students. Senior IAS and IPS officers have been invited from Chennai to address the students. People from IAS and IPS academy have been invited to interact with the students on January 10. The management has also decided to give IAS and IPS coaching materials free of cost to the students on that day. A detailed schedule has worked out to impart six months training to the students. The students would be submitting their application for the preliminary and main examinations by January 28.
Mr.Vidyasagaran said the college has embarked upon a programme to adopt villages for ensuring overall development. As a first step, it has adopted Molaharampatti in Tirupattur taluk. The college ensured free computer training for 20 youths from the village. Those selected for the programme have a strong background in allied agriculture activities. The programme has been scheduled for six weeks for members of self-help groups (SHGs) and their dependents. Mr. Vidyasagaran said that on February 23, the management planned to conduct the College Day function. The college has also organised a national seminar on ‘Energy scenario’ on January 28 and January 29.
