Minister conducts checks

CHENNAI: Food Minister E.V. Velu conducted checks of trucks, which were transporting rice bags to fair price shops from the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation godown at Pollachi on Friday. The Minister found some rice bags in a lorry were damaged and the measurement in some bags was less than the prescribed quantity. Mr. Velu suspended two warehouse employees and ordered departmental action against the godown superintendent.

The Minister also visited fair price shops in the town and suspended two fair price shop salesmen for diverting ration commodities. He directed ration shop employees to use only electronic balance, display stock position and ensure that cardholders received their monthly quota of rice and other commodities. — Special Correspondent
