Cold wave intensifies

Snowfall, rain in higher reaches of the State

Overcast conditions in State capital Shimla


SHIMLA: The cold wave conditions intensified in Himachal Pradesh on Sunday after more snowfall was rains.

Pin, Lahaul and Spiti valleys and higher altitude areas of Pangi and Bharmaur in Chamba district are experiencing snowfall since last night, plummeting the temperatures in the entire State.

The famous tourist resort of Narkanda, about 60 km from Shimla, recorded about 15 cm of snow since Saturday night. Kelong, Lahaul Spiti’s district headquarter received 10 cm, Solang Nullah 20 cm and Kalpa in Kinnuar district recorded about 15 cm of snow. Rohtang Pass, situated at 13,050-feet, received about 50 cm of snow.

Famous tourist resort of Manali in Kullu district received snowflakes during the day. Dhauladhar Ranges, overlooking the Kangra Valley, were also experiencing mild to moderate snowfall since Saturday night, while intermittent rains were lashing the lower areas of the district.

Overcast conditions were prevailing in the lower areas, including Shimla.

Meanwhile the Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal despite a heavy snowfall on Sunday visited Malana in Kullu district where about 150 houses were gutted in a devastating fire on Saturday and took stock of the rehabilitation measures. Mr. Dhumal said the State Government would initially spend about Rs 3 crore for the immediate relief measures. The Chief Minster said that State Forest Corporation would supply timber to affected families for which necessary funds would be made available by the government.
