JD(S) youth wing wants ticket in 50 per cent of Assembly constituencies

Staff Correspondent

It will contest in at least four segments in the district

Dalwai criticises BJP for trying to take credit

for loan waiver scheme

‘Party not affected by desertion of

senior leaders’

BIJAPUR: Arvind Dalwai, president of the State unit of the Yuva Janata Dal (Secular), has said party ticket in 50 per cent of the seats would be sought for the members of the youth wing in the next Assembly election.

Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, he said the party had not been perturbed by desertion of senior leaders. He said it would only pave the way for new leaders. There are eight Assembly segments in the district and Yuva Janata Dal (S) members would contest in at least four segments, he added.

Mr. Dalwai disagreed with the remarks made by some senior leaders, who had left the party, that there was no internal democracy in the Janata Dal (S) and that it had become a tool to safeguard the interests of party president H.D. Deve Gowda and his family.

Mr. Dalwai asked how these leaders had not realised this when they were in the party. He said that Mr. Gowda’s contribution towards the growth of the party was immense and that they had no moral right to speak against him.

Saving the party

He charged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress had been trying to give the impression that the Janata Dal (S) had pushed the State towards mid-term polls. But the fact remained that these parties were responsible for the same. The Janata Dal (S) was forced to withdraw support to the Congress-led Government and later the Government led by BJP leader B.S. Yeddyurappa to save the party, he added.

Mr. Dalwai criticised the BJP leaders for trying to take credit for the loan waiver scheme and for extending agriculture (farm) loans at four per cent interest rate. These were originally the programmes of the Janata Dal (S), he claimed.

He said Mr. Gowda and other senior leaders would begin a tour of the State on January 18 to revamp the party. District unit president Sangamesh Babaleshwar and secretary Ravi Khanapur were present.
