KADIRI (ANANTAPUR DT.): Minister for Tribal Welfare and Remote and Interior Areas’ Development D.S. Reddya Nayak on Sunday stated that the mess, cosmetic and other charges to the students of tribal as well as other hostels would be hiked from the next academic year. The government had already taken a decision on the increase in some of the charges and a decision would be taken on others at a meeting scheduled on January 10. Talking to newspersons here, he said the cosmetic charges would go up from Rs. 25 to 75 and the hair -cutting charges for boys would go up from Rs. 5 to 12 per month. Similarly, hostel students will be supplied with four pairs of school uniform from the coming academic year from the present two pairs. Later, the Minister inaugurated additional buildings of ST boys hostel here, the tribal welfare residential school for girls at Kokkanti crossroads and laid foundation stone for the construction of permanent building for the residential school at Chennarayaswamy Gudi project. Speaking at the inauguration of ST boys hostel building here, the Minister said that there were 651 residential schools run by the government in the State for SCs, STs, BCs and minorities. They would be transformed into mini-universities by developing them into housing 1,120 students each as per the proposal of Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy. They would also be upgraded to Intermediate level from the present tenth class.
