Five arrested, weapons seized

CHENNAI: Five persons, including one wanted in four murder cases, were arrested, and weapons seized from them, in a vehicle check on Erukkancheri High Road early on Saturday. According to the police, three men who were travelling in a jeep were stopped by the police personnel attached to M.K.B. Nagar for a routine check. When police enquired about four country-made bombs and Rs.1 lakh in cash found in the vehicle, one of the men threatened a Sub-Inspector with a knife. Following this, Azhagan, Vijayakumar and Senthil Kumar, were detained. Their interrogation led the police to a flat on Valluvar Salai, Arumbakkam, where two more men were holed up. Four hand grenades, a dozen two-foot-long knives and an axe were recovered.
