PUDUKKOTTAI: The Pudukkottai unit of the Tamil Nadu Government Officials’ Union (TNGOU) has thanked the Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi for restoring bonus, leave salary, dearness allowance, and concessions for pensioners, soon after assuming charge. At a rally organised on Saturday, the TNGOU adopted a resolution urging the government to bring under time scale and job regularisation noon meal workers, anganwadi workers, temporary workers in local bodies, ‘makkal nala paniyalargal,’ part-time librarians, and daily wage earners in Highways Department and local bodies, along with leave and pensionary benefits. Through another resolution, they sought rectification of the shortcomings faced by ministerial staff, uniformed staff in police department, part-time nurses, community nurses and employees of various other departments. Special examinations
The district unit president of TNGOU A. Janardanam suggested conduct of special examination for employees recruited in 2003 when government employees and teachers went on strike, and facilitating them to become junior assistants. He urged the Government to convene a meeting of representatives of government employees and take stock of the shortcomings and their demands and rectify the same. By other resolutions, the TNGOU demanded exemption of government employees from professional tax; enhancement of medical allowance and house rent allowance on par with central government employees; retention of the commutation amount at the existing level of 40 per cent; compliance with the sixth pay commission recommendations of fixing the minimum basic of Rs.5,500 for part-time nurses and community health nurses, Rs.6,500 when they go up to selection grade, and Rs.8,000 when they reach special grade. For village health nurses, pay should be on a par with their central government counterparts. The attention of the Government was also drawn to their demands for enhancement of education loan; fixing Rs.7 lakh as upper limit ceiling for gratuity; provision of pay scale beyond the special grade; changing nomenclature for ministerial staff; prompt appointments on compassionate grounds; and creation of promotional avenues. The district unit vice-president of the Union S. Arumugam flagged off the rally. The demands were read out by A. Periyasami, district unit treasurer.
