YSR launches Pulse Polio
HYDERABAD: An estimated 99.45 lakh children in the zero-five years age group were administered pulse polio drops as part of the polio immunisation programme across the State.
A total of 63,531 polio booths were set up and 1,849 mobile teams pressed into service. Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy inaugurated the ‘national immunisation day’ pulse polio programme by administering drops at his camp office to 10 children.
The Medical and Health Department officials said the second round of the programme would be on February 10. They had converted all polling stations into polio posts. Besides booths they deployed mobile teams at all hospitals, urban health posts, nursing homes, clinics, Anganwadi centres, public parks, railway/bus stations and airports, temples, gurudwaras, churches, construction sites and child labour areas.
Activists of non-governmental organisations like Rotary clubs, Lions clubs, youth organisations like NCC and other voluntary agencies also participated in the pulse polio drive.
