RSP lashes out at CPI(M) for “ditching socialism”

Says CPI(M) policy will demolish common goals of Left parties

RSP leader criticises functioning of State Ministers

KOLLAM: Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) general secretary K. Pankajakshan on Sunday lashed out at the CPI(M) for “ditching socialism.”

Inaugurating the delegates session of the RSP State conference here, Mr. Pankajakshan said the recent remarks by CPI(M) leaders indicated that the party had decided to demolish socialism.

Mr. Pankajakshan was reacting to the statements on socialism made recently by West Bengal Chief Minister and CPI(M) leader Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and senior party leader Jyoti Basu. While stating that industrialisation was necessary, he said capitalism was not mandatory for it.

The RSP leader said the current CPI(M) concept of socialism appeared incomprehensible to a Leftist. The negative attitude towards socialism and the grounds for it as stated by the two leaders appeared to be the policy of the CPI(M).

The CPI(M) leaders were “leading the party into the capitalist fold.” Such a policy would only serve to demolish the common goals of Left parties. Mr. Pankajakshan also criticised the manner of functioning of Education Minister M.A. Baby and Devaswom Minister G. Sudhakaran.

He alleged that the Education Minister was making statements after taking a unilateral decision on matters. Mr. Baby was not prepared to discuss the matter with the persons concerned, he alleged.

The RSP leader said the benefits of the good work done by the State government were not reaching the people. This can be achieved through better coordination. While globalisation has to be opposed, the State government is not taking effective measures for the purpose, Mr. Pankajakshan said.

RSP leader and former Minister V.P. Ramakrishna Pillai presided.
