Collector urges youth to pursue higher education

Inaugurates Indira Kranthi Pathakam office

KADAPA: District Collector M.T. Krishna Babu on Sunday exhorted youth to pursue higher education as ample employment opportunities were available.

Speaking after inaugurating the Indira Kranthi Patham office in the old RIMS complex here, he said the Government extended financial assistance of Rs. 2,400 crore to self-help groups in order to ensure social and economic uplift of the poor.

Seven thousand SHGs were functioning in urban areas now, he said. Kadapa district has 33,000 SHGs with 3.30 lakh members.

Janasri insurance was extended to SHGs in towns through Alambana scheme, Mr. Krishna Babu said. He urged the group members to strive with a goal.

Kadapa Mayor P. Ravindranath Reddy said efforts were on to extend insurance cover to one lakh poor in the district.

Food security scheme was being implemented in Kadapa city, he said. Pavala vaddi scheme was extended to women to help them clear debts incurred by their spouses. Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s endeavour was to give loan of Rs. 1 lakh to each woman, he asserted.

Kadapa MLA Mohd. Ahmedullah asked youth to take up vocational courses and become self-reliant. The Collector, MLA and Mayor gave away scholarship cheques to youth under Janasri Bima scheme and certificates to the sixth batch of employment-oriented trainees. Deputy Mayor K. Nabi Rasool urged people to develop by utilising the Government’s welfare schemes.

DRDA project director K. Ashok Reddy, municipal commissioner S. Aleem Basha, lead district manager Rama Rao, LIC marketing manager Srinivasa Rao, municipal commissioners, municipal corporators, SHG members and students participated.
