This Day That Age
The importance of good roads not only to enable human beings to travel and goods or commodities to be transported but also traffic of ideas to flow through, especially in a country like India was stressed by Dr. Rajendra Prasad, President of India, inaugurating the 22nd session of the Indian Road Congress at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi on January 5. Dr. Rajendra Prasad said that "this social and cultural aspect of roads is not in any way less important than the economic aspect and I, therefore, consider the existence of good roads as a vital factor in determining whether our society can become an equalitarian homogeneous one or will continue merely as a conglomeration of social groups leading their own separate lives and maintaining different levels of social and economic development."
