NEW DELHI: “We will make it the best ever Commonwealth Games”. This was the theme that dominated the finale of the ‘1000 days to go’ countdown run and the launch of the logo for the 2010 Games at the India Gates lawns on Sunday. Several thousand people including schoolchildren, diplomats and a few hundred sports personalities participated in the `2010 countdown run’ down a 3km stretch from Vijay Chowk to India Gate. At the end of it, at an impressive function compered by Kabir Bedi, the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) President, Mike Fennell, launched the new logo of the Games. The logo, incorporating the ‘chakra’, the national symbol, as an unwinding spiral symbolising sport, is a variant of an existing logo. The logo also incorporates the CGF emblem. The international sportspersons who were involved in the run included athletes Gurbachan Singh Randhawa, Shiny Wilson, M.D. Valsamma, Charles Borromeo, Gopal Saini, Bahadur Singh, Raj Kumar, Bhim Singh, Sunita Godara, Ashwini Nachappa and Rachita Mistry, hockey players Zafar Iqbal, Nandy Singh, R. S. Bhola, Harbinder Singh, V. Baskaran and Dhanraj Pillay, swimmer Khajan Singh and Wilson Cherian, weightlifters Karnam Malleswari and Kunjarani Devi, wrestler Satpal and badminton player Gopi Chand and Everester Bachendri Pal. — Special Correspondent
