Tolani Shipping advances

Bharuch: Late on Saturday night, Tolani Shipping led eight qualifiers for the quarterfinals of the Ruia Trophy bridge tournament with a tally of 150 victory points in which the last qualifier was Raju Tolani’s Manyavar with a score of 129 vps.

The major upset of the tournament so far has been the early exit of title holder Indian Railways ‘A’ which could not manage even a quarterfinal berth.

The semifinals will be completed late on Sunday and the 64-board finals will be played on Monday.

In the IMP pairs event which concluded on Friday night, Dr. A.N. Rao-V.R. Rao won the MNC Trophy in Section DEF, on a tie-break.

N.H. Ukidave-Sudhir Choudhary and Bharati Dey-A. Daga finished second and third.

The Kamalakar Trophy (Section ABC) was won by R.K. Sen-B.K. Mukherjee, followed by Mrs Sathyavathi Vasant-Dr. S. Vasant and R.K.Gupta-S.C. Sarkar.
