BHUBANESWAR: India’s pioneering theatre personality Ram Gopal Bajaj has urged the Government to prevail upon industrialists and corporate houses to provide adequate patronage for cultural affairs. Addressing the inaugural session of the fifth annual national writers’ meet hosted by the Kadambinee Media in the city on Sunday, Mr. Bajaj emphasised on inclusion of theatre as a subject in school curriculum. He further felt that it was high time that the theatre movement reaches the grass-root level in grampanchayats through a sustained effort. Similar viewsOrissa’s versatile dramatist and actor Anant Mohapatra, who inaugurated the meet, and Kolkata-based eminent theatre director Rudra Prasad Sengupta also aired similar views on promotion of the theatre culture in the country. New-Delhi based noted writer Jagannath Prasad Das dwelt on the relevance of drama on the life of the people and the society at large. Meanwhile, the State’s popular stage-craft exponent Asim Basu spoke of the hurdles faced by the theatre community in Orissa. FelicitatedWhile KIIT University Chancellor Achyut Samant and Kadambinee magazine editor Iti Samant spoke, well-known writer Bibhuti Patnaik presided over the inaugural session that honoured writers Gayatri Basu Mallick and Kalpana Kumari Devi on the occasion for their literary contributions. The meet focussed on the state of theatre in the country. Besides Mr. Bajaj and Mr. Sengupta, dramatist Ranjit Patnaik participated during the day’s deliberations that were chaired by eminent litterateur Ratnakar Chaini. About 500 delegates participated in the day long meet.
