NEW DELHI: Foggy conditions at Delhi airport resulted in delays of several flights on Sunday. While one Kingfisher flight IT-801 was diverted to Jaipur because of fog, several other flights were delayed due to fog in Srinagar. Though most flight delays occurred during the morning, arrivals were the worst affected in the evening with delays ranging between one and three hours. Departures, however, more or less stabilised by evening. According to airport officials, only one runway was in use from 10 p.m. on Saturday to 5 p.m. on Sunday. The exclusive use of the second runway for landing started only after 5 p.m. on Sunday when the runway visual range increased to a comfortable 2,600 metres. Safeguard measuresSafeguard procedures were initiated at 8-05 a.m. on Sunday when the runway visual range fell to 1,300 metres. This was followed by low visibility procedures being implemented at 8-48 a.m. when the runway visibility range fell further to stand at 725 metres. However, an improvement in visibility conditions led to the termination of low visibility procedures around 11-45 a.m. when the runway visibility range reached 1,400 metres. Following further improvement in visibility conditions, safeguard procedure were lifted at 12 noon.
