Playback singers enthral the audience with popular numbers MOODBIDRI: The curtains came down on the five-day cultural fiesta, “Alva’s Virasat” here on Sunday which was marked by the film music. The programme is slated to return as an “international” event, next year. Playback singers such as Archana Udupa, Rajesh Krishnan, Pallavi Arum (formerly M.D. Pallavi), Ajay Warrier, L.N. Shastri, Rameshchandra, Surekha, Suneeta, Anuradha Bhat, Preeda and Sachin Mukhesh enthralled the nearly 10,000 audience with popular numbers. Ramesh Chandra of Kasaragod rendered the popular Kannada song “Kanakanade shaarade” from “Aptamitra”, Gangothri Rangaswamy sang “Jenina holeyo..”, and Archana Udupa and Shastri duo sang “Kunidu kunidu baare..” from Mungaru Male. Ms. Udupa’s “Nambide ninna naada devatheye…”and “Teredide mane…” impressed everyone. Mukhesh presented “Anisuthide Indu…” from Mungaru Male. Rajesh Krishnan paired up with Sunita to present “Kariya I love you...” from Duniya. Ajay Warrier and Sunita presented songs from Malayalam films. The three-hour film music session was followed by “chau dance” by more than 30 artistes from north Indian artistes. It was organised in coordination with the New Delhi-based Sangeet Natak Academy. On Saturday, folk artistes from different parts of the State stole the show. The programme featured puja kunita, jaggahaligi kunita, dollu kunita, gee-gee pada, chowdki pada, and so on. The sitar recital by Purbayan Chatterjee-led “Shastriya Syndicate” attempted at achieving a harmony between the Veena and Mridangam on one side and Sitar, Sarangi and Tabla on the other. The programme was well received by one and all.
